Circle of Courage Awards

CIRCLE OF COURAGE PHILOSOPHY

The Circle of Courage is an educational philosophy based upon critical principles of personal development in the larger society: Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity. The Circle of Courage is an inclusive philosophical perspective; it is accessible and complementary to secular humanist values, as well as most religious faiths. The Circle of Courage is a philosophy that integrates the best of Western educational thought with the wisdom of Indigenous cultures and emerging research on positive youth development.

Reclaiming Youth International.

The promotion of the Circle of Courage as an Indigenous philosophical perspective will:

  • Demonstrate to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people that we have our own principled and rational value systems;
  • Demonstrate to the non-Indigenous cultures that Indigenous people have an ancient tradition of social development;
  • Provide a roadmap for Indigenous peoples' education and social development from our own ancestral perspectives;
  • Create pride in Indigenous culture, and a positive marker for all Canadians to take pride in our Indigenous heritage and people; and,
  • Promote common-sense social development principles and activities which are inclusive, progressive, and non-judgmental.

4 Athletes (2 Male & 2 Female) from each sport will be provided with the awards of Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity
